The English Standard of Coptic Hymnology (ESCH) was founded in early 2018 by a group of deacons and choir members of the Coptic Orthodox Church, burderned by the scarcity of comprehensive English sources on the Coptic Liturgy.

We aim to fulfill this need, by providing a fully comprehensive and faithful English rendition of Coptic hymns; in particular the Divine Liturgy.

We realise the immensity of this task, as the Liturgy is truly rich in beauty, and translating music and art across culture is complex, and remains to some extent impossible.

We have carefully and prayerfully attempted doing so by drawing from several reputable sources, which include: The Higher Institute of Coptic Studies (HICS), The Heritage of the Coptic Orthodox Church (HCOC) Choir, and various Cantors such as Cantor Ibrahim Ayad, Gad Lewis, Farag Abdelmessih, Fr Mattias Nasr Mankarious and the great Cantor Mikhail El-Batanouny.

The primary translation we use is of the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of the Southern USA, as we have found this to be the most accurate and widely used via the Coptic Reader App for iOS and Android.
